Dr. Henry Alton Mansfield opened his first dental practice in 1890 in the home of his parents. In 1910 he relocated to the former Bion B. Mansfield store. The building is still standing and is a private home, as shown in the photo below.

In 1959, at the age of 92, Dr. Henry Mansfield was New England’s oldest practicing dentist.

Dr. Henry Mansfield traveled to nearby towns in this horse-drawn carriage to serve his dental patients who could not journey to his office. The carriage had all the equipment needed, including a dental chair and a pedal powered drill. In 1989 the carriage was donated to the Cole Transportation Museum in Bangor by Maralyn Mazza, a granddaughter of Dr. Mansfield.
